Arrow Point Removal

Being involved in competive archery I build my own arrows. The shafts are carbon fiber & I use Gorilla Super Glue to hold the points in. Once in a while a point gets damaged & needs to be replaced. What would be the best way to remove the point?

Re: Arrow Point Removal

Use a towel dampened with acetone or isopropyl alcohol and wipe the surface, allowing the cloth to remain on the surface for approximately 30 seconds before wiping.  Then, using moderate pressure, rub the surface.  The adhesive should begin to soften, but many applications may be necessary.

Re: Arrow Point Removal

I tried the towel & Isopropal to no avail. Next I soaked the end of the arrow in Isopropal for 15-20 minutes. Still no luck. After removing the nock, I filled the shaft with the alcohol & soaked the shaft externally allowing both the internal & external soaks to sit 15-20 minutes. Even with pliers, that point isn't coming loose. Any other ideas? I hate to throw away a $20 arrow just because I can't get the point out.

Re: Arrow Point Removal

I am so surprised it hasn't broken the bond!  I would try soaking it in hot soapy water.  This will also break down the Super Glue.

Re: Arrow Point Removal

Any suggestions on how "soapy", how hot, & what kind of soap? I tried soaking in boiling water (no soap) for 2 minutes & guess what, that is some tough glue, the point is still in the shaft. I'm almost ready to concede defeat.
