Super Glue Cure Time

OK, the directions say to put a small amout to both surfaces to to be glued and press together for 30 seconds.  Every time I'v tried to use Gorilla Super Glue it always takes longer, I'm talkin alot longer than 30 seconds.

It might be that I am use to using other brands of super glue that bond almost instantly and at a fraction of the cost.

Is there a reason why it takes longer for GSG to cure v/s other brands?

Re: Super Glue Cure Time

Gorilla Super Glue is an instant bond adhesive.  The directions state "apply a small amount of glue to one surface."  I use only one drop per square inch and hold my surfaces together for about 30 seconds.  That is all that is needed.  If you use too much glue, it can cause delayed or failed bonds.  Cut down on the amount you are using and let me know how it works for you!

Re: Super Glue Cure Time

I try not to use too much but when you are gluing small parts togher, 1 drop seems to be alot.

And no, it doesn't bond instantly. I just glued some plastic together and with just a tad of it and it took ever bit of 5 minutes for it to cure good enough for me to handle. I then had to bend the outer plastic and glue down the side.

I used just a tad and then spread it to both sides and I have to clamp it. After all that it seems to hold pretty good, so I'll see how it holds up on that RC A-arm. If it don't, I'll try the regular Gorilla Glue.

Re: Super Glue Cure Time

I took a piece of plastic banding strap and sanded 1 side to get the glaze off and rough it up,after applying a small amount I had to let it sit for about 15 minutes before I could bend the plastic and glue it.I put just a little and smeared it and put a clamp on it. some excess came from the side when I clamped it  and took 20 - 30 minute to dry.

I'm not putting Gorilla products down or anything, because the original glue is great and the tape is the best I'v ever seen, thicker and sticks better than any other duct tape I'v used.  It's just this super glue that I am a little agrivaded at, it being like a gel might have something to do with it or it might be bad, but after it dries it does hold good.

Re: Super Glue Cure Time

Gorilla Super Glue does have two limitations - polyethylene and polypropylene plastics.  These two specific plastics are made with an extremely high amount of petroleum so the surfaces are too slick and oily and as a result, the glue cannot get a secure or tight bond.  This is the type of plastic we use to make our containers out of.  I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your RC and ask them what type of plastic it is made out of.  From that point, you may be able to find an appropriate adhesive for that specific type of plastic.  Let me know what type of plastic it is!
