wood to glass
Modified By boogsawaste on 6/4/2010 2:53:51 PM)

Ok, this might seem a strange use for gorilla glue but I have green tree pythons and I would like to know if I could use gorilla glue to bond their perches (sticks), to the sides of the aquariums (which are glass). I need to know if it is strong enough to hold them up as they can be a couple pounds each. The sticks would only be held up by the glue itself as the sticks would be horizontal.

EDIT: I forgot a couple things that might matter. The diamater of the wood will be 1-2", and it will be in a high humidity enclosure. Frequent misting from water and drying off in between.

Re: wood to glass

While Gorilla Glue will work on a glass to wood application, and it is 100% waterproof and non-toxic when cured, following the directions will be almost impossible for this application.  Whenever you use Gorilla Glue on a non-porous surface, such as glass, we recommend that you rough up or scratch up that surface first where the glue is going to be.  This will give some texture to the surface.  Then follow the standard directions and apply glue to one surface, moisture to the other surface and then put your surfaces together.  At this point you must clamp your surfaces together tightly since the glue will foam and expand.  I do not know of any way to apply the appropriate pressure to hold the sticks to the glass.  Without appropriate pressure, the foaming action of the glue will push your surfaces apart and it will not work.  I recommend contacting an aquarium store or supply company and ask which adhesive they recommend for this specific application.

Re: wood to glass

Thanks, I decided to just use silicone and closet rod holders to attach to the glass. I put the sticks across and now I can remove them easily.
